by Pleasant View

The Peoria City Council Tuesday night voted to appoint Councilmember Jon Edwards to serve as Vice Mayor and Councilmember Jennifer Crawford to serve as Mayor Pro Tem for one-year terms, beginning immediately.

The appointment of both positions is pursuant to the Peoria City Charter, which states council shall designate one of its members as Vice Mayor and a separate member as Mayor Pro Tem. Both positions serve in such capacity at the pleasure of the council and for one-year terms.

The Vice Mayor performs the duties of the Mayor during his absence. The Mayor Pro Tem performs the duties of the Mayor during the absence of both the Mayor and the Vice Mayor.

Edwards served as Mayor Pro Tem last year and in 2016 and 2014. He previously served as Vice Mayor in 2015, 2017 and 2021. In addition to his role with the City Council Edwards represents Peoria on the Maricopa Association of Governments Transportation Policy Committee and is on the Valley Metro Board of Directors.

Crawford was sworn into her first term on January 3, 2023. She has over 30 years of business and marketing experience. She has operated small businesses, a non-profit organization and is a self-employed consultant.
