The Banner Poison and Drug Information Center is advising the public to check all cinnamon products with the recall list from the FDA.
“Acute lead poisoning can initially look like many other acute illnesses including abdominal pain, headaches, constipation and joint pain between other symptoms. Although unlikely from this type of possible exposure, chronic poisoning can result in behavioral disturbances and damage to the central nervous system”, said Daniel Brooks, MD, Medical Director of the Banner Poison and Drug Information Center.
While these symptoms may seem mild at first, prolonged exposure to lead can cause severe health issues, especially in children, pregnant women, and individuals with compromised immune systems. If you suspect that you or a loved one may have been exposed to lead, it is important to seek medical attention immediately.
“We recommend disposing of all recalled products immediately,” advises Maureen Roland, RN, Managing Director.
If you have any concerns that you or your child may have been exposed, reach out to your healthcare provider to discuss getting a blood lead test.
