El Mirage Cuts Ribbon on Hohokam Multi-Use Trail

by Pleasant View

El Mirage City officials gathered today to cut the ribbon on the new Hohokam Multi-Use Trail. The nearly one-mile-long recreational pathway, consisting of new paved trail and existing concrete sidewalk, establishes a more permanent and safer path for pedestrians and bicyclists.

A first-of-its-kind in El Mirage, the multi-use trail provides recreational opportunities for residents, as well as a continuous path throughout the community from parks and places of work. The lights illuminating the pathway encourage outdoor activity and its 12-foot width allows for social distancing.

“This trail has already become a popular place to walk, run, and ride bikes with family, friends and pets,” said El Mirage Mayor Alexis Hermosillo. “Collaboration with partners like Maricopa County and several federal agencies has improved the quality of life for residents in El Mirage.”

Supervisor Clint Hickman, Chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, attended and his remarks echoed the mayor’s sentiments, calling for continued cooperation among agencies on projects that positively impact our communities.

The City received $1.2 million from Maricopa County, which utilized U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant

CARES Act (CDBG-CV) funds. The City contributed $207,000 towards the construction of the trail.

The Hohokam Multi-Use Trail is located between Dysart Road at Sweetwater Avenue, and Cactus Road at N. 123rd Lane, providing access from several housing communities, parks and green areas. Residents from several residential areas can easily access the trail, especially the subdivisions of Dysart Park, Cactus Park, Dysart & Cactus, Parque Verde and Buenavida South.
