On Wednesday, the Glendale Police Department announced that they apprehended a man who they believe attempted to abduct a 14-year-old girl the last week.
Timothy Tan Guan, 28 is accused of attempted kidnapping, aggravated assault, and unlawful imprisonment. According to authorities, Guan has a prior criminal record that includes incidents involving minors.
According to the police, Guan approached the victim at approximately 1 p.m. on her way home from school. He initially approached her at the intersection of 91st Avenue and Cardinals Way.
On Wednesday, the Glendale PD released a video clip depicting a pale-colored car pulling up to the girl, with Guan exiting from the front passenger’s seat.
During a press briefing, Glendale police officer Moroni Mendez stated that the teenager quickly became aware of potential danger and began to fear for her safety. Trusting her gut instinct, may have saved her life.
The teen was able to react fast and fled to a neighboring area and approached a man who was walking his dog and asked assistance. Together, they called Glendale PD at approximately 1:30 p.m.
After receiving a report, police officers arrived at the intersection of 87th Avenue and Solano Drive to speak with the victim. Subsequently, the officers searched the surrounding vicinity for footage from nearby residents and traffic surveillance systems.
Mendez commended and congratulated the teen for her exceptional response and for her vigilance in being aware of her surroundings.
