Governor’s Office Seeks Applicants for Arizona Criminal Justice Commission Openings

PHOENIX — The Governor’s Office is seeking qualified applicants to fill positions on the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission (ACJC), a key body responsible for overseeing public safety and criminal justice programs in the state.

The ACJC administers critical criminal justice grants, such as the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant, which funds law enforcement, prosecution efforts, and crime prevention programs. Additionally, the Commission monitors criminal justice legislation, coordinates statewide data sharing, and houses the Arizona Statistical Analysis Center, which conducts research to inform statewide policy and reports.

Serving on the Commission provides an opportunity to contribute to meaningful and lasting reforms in Arizona’s criminal justice system.

Open Positions

The following roles are currently open for applications:

  • One police chief from a county with a population equal to or greater than 1.5 million.
  • One police chief from a county with a population between 800,000 and 1.5 million.
  • One police chief, one county sheriff, and one county attorney from a county with a population under 800,000.
  • One law enforcement leader.
  • One former judge.
  • One mayor.
  • One member of a county board of supervisors.
  • One public defender.
  • One victim advocate.
  • One chief probation officer.

How to Apply

Interested and qualified individuals committed to improving public safety and advancing a fair justice system are encouraged to apply. Current members are also invited to reapply. Applications are being accepted through the Boards and Commissions website, with an initial review to begin on December 17, 2024.

The Governor’s Office emphasized the importance of these positions in shaping criminal justice policies that impact communities across Arizona. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions are filled.
