Law Enforcement in West Valley to Intensify Efforts Against Speeding

by Pleasant View

On Wednesday, law enforcement officials in the West Valley unveiled a new plan aimed at addressing the ongoing problem of speeding and traffic concerns in a variety of west valley cities.

Project “Safe Speeds Saves Lives” aims to target areas with high levels of speeding on roads, in order to reduce speed and ultimately prevent accidents.

According to Benny Piña, the Surprise police chief, there will be no warning announcements about enforcement efforts and officers will be carrying out a strict “zero tolerance” policy.

Piña encourages drivers to recognize the possibility of high traffic volume and congestion, and plan and allow for extra time in your commute during peak traffic times to prevent the need to speed.

Police will conduct the project similar to how they handle DUI enforcement during holiday periods. It is anticipated to occur multiple times per month until July.

Enforcement efforts are being jointly undertaken by seven police departments in the West Valley: Surprise, Glendale, Peoria, Goodyear, El Mirage, Buckeye, and Avondale. Additionally the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in this effort.

Officers are putting out the word, requesting valley drivers to slow down and understand there will be a heavy police presence with an effort to slow drivers down.
