Peoria Resident Dies After Barricading Self In Home In Domestic Violence Situation

by Pleasant View

A barricade situation that occurred on Wednesday ended with the discovery of a deceased man in his Peoria home.

On Wednesday, Peoria police were called to a residence at the Brookside Gardens at Westbrook Village, near 91st Avenue and Union Hills Drive at 7 a.m. after neighbors heard gunfire. When officers arrived to the scene, the suspect’s wife ran out of the home uninjured.

The female reported that her partner was in their residence, armed and had barricaded himself in the home.

A perimeter was set up around the home as officers worked to communicate with the suspect for several hours.  The officers made multiple attempts to coax the man out of his residence but were not successful.

After approximately two hours, the suspect shot himself in the garage and set the house on fire.  A tactical team eventually forced themselves into the garage, where they confirmed the man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police have not released his identity but say he was 60 years old.
