Peoria Special Needs Student Makes Amazing Shot From Half-Court During Basketball Match

by Pleasant View

Liberty High School’s first intramural Unified Program basketball game concluded with an improbable, half court shot from a special needs student that sent the crowd into a frenzy.

At the conclusion of the game, Tonatiuh Ramirez, referred to as “T”, managed to make a shot from beyond the half-court line in the midst of a bunch of defenders.

This game allows students with disabilities as well as those in general education to take part in activities such as basketball. Club UNIFY is part of Project UNIFY, a Special Olympics education and sports-based program that promotes respect through sports. Project UNIFY strives to build an inclusive environment among youth with and without intellectual disabilities, as well as empowering them to be leaders and agents for change.

In an interview, Ramirez exclaimed “I do the best shot ever,” Ramirez said in an interview with the outlet. “The crowd and everything, it was amazing.”

T and the crowd will most likely have a permanent memory of the experience, which is the something the Unified Program aims to accomplish.
