Updated Criteria for Reserving Fossil Creek Parking Permits

by Pleasant View

Attention visitors, there are upcoming changes taking place at one of Arizona’s most stunning destinations in Camp Verde, Arizona.

The parking permit reservation system for Fossil Creek was recently modified by the Coconino National Forest in an effort to improve accessibility and reduce the number of no-shows. This update was implemented in response to the increasing number of no-shows that the Forest was experiencing.

Located in Arizona, Fossil Creek is known as one of the state’s two National Wild and Scenic rivers. This canyon holds significant cultural and historical significance as an Ancestral homeland.

As part of the updated system, 80% of permits will be released every day at 8 a.m. on a rolling basis for a one-month period. This means that visitors can secure their permit up to a month prior to their planned visit date.

Permits for the remaining 20% will be made available three days prior. These permits can also be obtained from 8 a.m.

During the period of April 1 to October 1, permits are mandatory. Each individual is limited to one permit per month, and they are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

The closing time for Dixon Lewis, Irving/Flume, Tonto Bench, Fossil Creek Bridge, and Homestead parking lots is 3 p.m. Permits are limited to a maximum group size of 12 people.

Camping is not allowed in the Fossil Creek Permit Area during the period of April 1 to October

To secure a permit, please go to the official website of Coconino National Forest.
