Man Allegedly Pointed Gun During Foot Chase, Prompting Peoria Officer To Shoot

On Monday, Peoria police shot a man who pointed a gun at officers during a foot chase.

According to authorities, a man who was reportedly armed was hospitalized on Monday night after being shot by a Peoria officer in Phoenix.

The Peoria Police Department’s Twitter account reported that at approximately 10:40 p.m., an officer observed an individual behaving suspiciously near the intersection of Peoria and 91st avenues, outside of a business that was closed.

The officer attempted to make contact with suspect however, the suspect fled through a parking lot outside of a nearby Circle K.

According to authorities, while chasing the suspect on foot, the man reportedly aimed a firearm at the officer which resulted in the officer shooting the suspect, who was hit by at least one round.

The man who has not yet been identified, was transported to a hospital with injuries that were deemed life-threatening.

The incident did not cause any injury to the officer involved.
