Police Arrest Suspect in Glendale Hit-and-Run That Resulted in Deaths of 2 Teenagers

Authorities announced on Monday that a suspect has been apprehended for their involvement in a hit-and-run incident in Glendale that resulted in the deaths of two teenagers over the weekend. The arrest was made in Phoenix.

According to a press release from the Glendale Police Department, law enforcement were called to the area of 51st and Glendale avenues at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday for a crash involving five vehicles.

At the scene, Tyler Hugon and Tess Collins, both 18 years old, were declared dead, while a third individual was transported to a hospital as a precautionary measure.

 

According to authorities, 20-year-old Dieudonne Ushindi, the alleged perpetrator of the car accident, ran away from the site on foot and was subsequently apprehended at his home.

Reports state that Ushindi was allegedly implicated in a crash that occurred near the intersection of 48th and Glendale avenues just before the tragic event took place.

Ushindi fled that original crash scene he drove towards the west on Glendale Avenue at what has been reported at a high rate of speed and collided with the car carrying Hugon and Collins, resulting in a multi-vehicle collision involving three other cars.

Ushindi fled the scene, however, witnesses recognized as the driver of the vehicle he abandoned at the accident and was able to give police a good description. Upon investigation police were able to learn his name from the car he left at the scene.

Ushindi is being charged with both endangerment and hit-and-run offenses.

At present, it is uncertain if being under the influence was a factor in the accidents.
