Take a Hike, Safely

by Pleasant View

Peoria is known for its beautiful mountains, parks, and miles of trails. Hiking is one of Peoria’s most popular and accessible activities but it can be one of the most dangerous to do in the summer.

The following tips can help you stay safe while you enjoy the great outdoors:

  • Watch the weather and opt for hiking during the early mornings and evenings to avoid the high temperatures of the day.
  • Dress appropriately with a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and proper shoes and clothing.
  • Bring lots of water and hydrate before, during and after hiking.
  • Carry a mobile phone and let others know where you are hiking.
  • Do not push yourself, especially if you have asthma, heart problems, diabetes or knee or back problems.
  • Do not trailblaze, you could get lost. Enjoy the beautiful Sonoran Desert by staying on all designated trails.
