A child died after a boat accident at Lake Pleasant Friday morning.
Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office officials report the accident occurred around 11 a.m. when the 6-year-old girl was struck after the boat operator moved the boat forward.
The young girl was reportedly run over and received a severe injury to her leg. She was taken immediately to a hospital by Peoria Fire Department where she died.
The group on the boat consisted of two families, including six adults and six children out wakeboarding. They reportedly were all experienced boaters and had taken all of the proper safety precautions that day.
The operator of the boat was the girl’s mother who thought everyone was safely back inside of the boat. Unbeknownst to her the girl was still in the water. Authorities do not believe impairment to be a factor in the accident.An investigation remains ongoing.
Officials are reminding all those to use extra precaution when out on the lake.
