by Pleasant View

Western Maricopa Education Center (WEST-MEC), a career and technical education public school program, recently announced the addition of four new CTE programs for high school students.

Beginning in Fall of 2024, valley high school students will have the opportunity to take part in the recently launched programs of Cloud Technology, Cosmetology, Esports, and Automation and Robotic Systems.

The Cloud Technology program, which spans a year, aims to educate students on the fundamentals, importance, services, and terminologies related to cloud-based technology. This course is exclusively offered at the Southwest West-MEC campus in Buckeye and equips students with the necessary technical skills for a potential career in the field of IT. Additionally, students will have the chance to acquire multiple certifications, such as CompTIA (ITF+), CompTIA (Network+), CompTIA (Cloud+), and AWS Cloud Practitioner.

The Cosmetology program is set to be reintroduced by West-MEC, having been previously offered. This two-year program will encompass a diverse set of skills, such as hair care, styling, cutting, coloring, wig application, skincare, nail care, makeup application, hair removal, infection control, safety procedures, and more.

The community college partner of West-MEC, GateWay Community College in Deer Valley, will offer the program. In addition, students in the cosmetology program can take industry credential tests at no extra charge. West-MEC’s Aesthetics program will now be available at GateWay as well.

The students in the Esports program engage in the development of games, participate in Esports competitions, and establish connections with fellow gamers. They will also be involved in planning, designing, and producing tournaments while learning about all aspects of production and marketing. Through their specialized expertise, the students will compete in various tournaments such as League of Legends and Rocket League. This one-year course will be available at Paradise Valley Community College, in partnership with West-MEC’s community college.

The program for Automation and Robotic Systems at West-MEC’s Southwest Campus provides students with the essential engineering principles and technical abilities to oversee industrial automation control systems and technologies. The main emphasis is on incorporating artificial intelligence into the control of machines in manufacturing processes. This one-year program will be available at West-MEC’s Southwest Campus.

The four new programs are an effort to increase the accessibility of education for students pursuing their interests. These courses at West-MEC are designed to prepare students for success and equip them with the necessary skills for their future careers. The organization is eager to witness the success and growth of its students, who are the potential leaders of Arizona.

Students in all four programs will engage in practical learning, collaborate with seasoned professionals in the industry, acquire certifications, and have the chance to intern. These Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs equip students to join the workforce and secure well-paying positions upon completing high school. Additionally, those who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree can also enroll in their chosen program, enabling them to earn college credits while in high school.
