Peoria To See New Affordable Housing Developments

by Pleasant View

The city of Peoria is currently focused on introducing new and cost-effective housing projects to the area. This effort has led to a collaboration with Greenlight Communities to begin construction on Streamliner 87th.

Construction of Streamliner 87th, a new affordable housing project, has begun thanks to the collaboration between Peoria and Greenlight Communities.

Situated at the intersection of West Peoria and 87th Avenue, the addition of 190 fresh units will introduce contemporary and affordable housing options to the Northwest Valley.

In a statement, Mayor Beck emphasized the high cost and limited accessibility of housing, stating that there needs to be a starting point for addressing this issue. He also highlighted the significance of this particular project, not just for Peoria but for the entire state of Arizona, and expressed the need for similar initiatives to be implemented.

Streamliner 87th is the initial affordable housing initiative in Peoria. It is anticipated to be completed and running by the end of the year, introducing a streamlined architectural approach to ensure the expected timeline is met.

The overall plan will introduce a total of 71 studio, 72 one-bedroom, and 47 two-bedroom apartments. These units will be available for rent at the starting price of $1,099 per month.

According to Rob Lyles, co-founder and partner at Greenlight Communities, their team has come a long way by working together and having faith in the idea of attainable housing, also known as workforce housing. This achievement marks a significant milestone for them.

Since his election into office in 2023, Mayor Beck, has been focused on rejuvenating Downtown Peoria as one of his top priorities. With the current influx of funds towards promoting economic growth in the region, Beck envisions Streamliner 87th as a promising location for accommodating employees and customers in the vicinity.

Greenlight Communities has observed the expansion in the Northwest Valley and has recently started construction on two projects in Glendale. As Peoria prepares for future growth, the collaboration between the public and private sectors will benefit both organizations in achieving their respective goals.

According to Beck, the Streamliner 87th development marks the beginning of numerous affordable housing projects to follow. It serves as evidence that Peoria’s efforts towards achieving affordable housing are being acknowledged.

The relocation of major factories, including TSMC, to North Peoria has highlighted the need for affordable housing for both employees and young individuals starting their lives.
