Growth and change is exciting and the economic impact it can have in a community can be beneficial. However, some north Peoria residents were shocked to learn of plans for a new chip plant to be built in their backyard.
Late February, news broke that Amkor had plans to build a $2 billion dollar plant nestled between the community of Vistancia and the Loop 303 on a 320 acre property. The plant is expected to be up and running by 2027, bringing with it 300 full time positions, with another 425 additional jobs by September of 2028. By 2034 Amkor is expected to have a total of 850 employees operating.
With the anticipated development is expected to also bring a wide variety of establishments, such as restaurants, retailers, hospitality services, office buildings and healthcare facilities. However, what residents in the community are more worried about is the traffic that will ramp up into the relatively quiet community.
Reports of questions have been flooding into the City of Peoria leadership inboxes. Peoria leaders have acknowledged the importance of transparent information and have organized an informational webinar this Wednesday, March 27 at 6:00 p.m. to provide information and help answer questions Peoria residents may have.
